Summary
As a Nursery Apprentice, you will work alongside the nursery team to provide a high-quality caring environment for the children. Providing a wide range of activities for the children to engage in, as well as supporting the staff team. At the end of the apprenticeship, you will have either a Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years qualification.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
* You will gain experience of working in a day nursery setting with children aged 3 months - 5 years
* Assist in planning and preparation of daily activities with the children
* Build strong working relationships with the staff team, children and their parents/carers
* The apprenticeship allows you to start a career in childcare and offers various career progression roots, with further training upon completion

* Recognise when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and act to protect them in line with safeguarding policy and procedure.
* Apply legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children in the setting (for example, food safety, diets, starting solid food, allergies, COSHH, and accidents, injuries, and emergencies).
* Apply the principles of risk assessment and risk management within documentation and practice.
* Teach children to develop skills to manage risk and maintain their own and others safety.
* Use a range of communication methods, including technology, with other professionals to meet the individual needs of the child.
* Develop and maintain effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child.
* Undertake the role and responsibilities of key person.
* Recognise and apply theories of attachment to develop effective relationships with children.
* Provide sensitive and respectful personal care for children from birth to 5 years.
* Advocate for all children’s needs, including children which require SEND or EAL support.

Your training plan
Early Years Educator Level 2/3 Apprenticeship Standard:
* Training will take place within the workplace. You will be required to attend monthly online sessions with your assessor
* You must ensure your deadlines for assignment submissions are met
* You will meet fortnightly with the Nursery Manager / Mentor to discuss your progress and for support where needed
* Paediatric first aid qualification
* Functional skills if required
* We currently have other team members working towards their qualifications, allowing for excellent peer-to-peer support
Permanent employment may be available at the end of your apprenticeship. A training schedule has yet to be agreed upon. Further details will be made available at a later date.
Current qualified vacancies are offered to apprentices on completion, before external advertisement.
