Job Description
Role & Responsibility
1. Communication
o To promote positive and constructive relationships on site with the Management teams across the Wincanton sites.
o You will monitor and support your team providing regular communications, encouraging feedback and contribution of ideas and initiatives.
o Actively promote and increase awareness of the People Campus brand both internally and externally.
o Manage and minimise the risks (operational or reputational) that could affect or interrupt the success of People Campus.
o Be approachable, open, honest, and fair, leading by example.
2. Legislation
o Report accidents / near misses / incidents immediately.
o Ensure team members and self operate in line with all company, customer, and site procedures.
o Ensure that the team meet all eligibility to work criteria and ensure working schedules are in line with people policies and working time regulations.
3. Health and Safety
o Ensure team complies with health and safety legislation.
o Support Workplace Safety and Health activities to ensure organisational and regulatory requirements are followed.
4. Performance
o Develop the People Campus concept by analysing logistical problems and producing new solutions.
o Manage, motivate and lead a team to ensure customer KPI's, performance targets and absence levels are met.
o Resolve any arising problems or complaints.
o Maintain metrics and analyse data to assess performance across sites and look to implement improvements or change strategies.
o Work on strategic planning of People Campus by developing short-to-medium range plans for the growth of People Campus in the Northampton and surrounding area.
o Understand and embrace the culture of the sites and actively participate in developing an open / honest environment.
o Work with site management teams and finance department to support payment processes for both customers and the People Campus team.
5. Colleagues
o Accountable for medium term succession planning across your sites, including the ability to scale up your geographical location quickly to support continued business growth.
o Ensure the team are allocating and manage staff resources according to the sites / customers changing needs and volumes.
o Plan work improvement activities and performance improvement strategies.
o Designing new processes to improve quality or increase profitability.
o Formulate strategic and operational objectives and relay these to the team.
o Ensuring the People Campus team operates within the company's mission statement.
o To collaborate with the site management teams, influencing where needed, to ensure that the labour pool resource and skill base is effectively deployed to deliver the best outcome for Wincanton as a whole.
o Proactively motivate the team to ensure they achieve performance targets by providing guidance, encouragement, training and development.
6. Commercial
o Maintain and further develop a high level of teamwork and morale within the team.
o You will enjoy working with site management teams, both internal and external to maintain and develop existing and new revenue streams.
o Demonstrate a commercial awareness and understand the contractual operating environment.
o Ensure that all activities are conducted in line with budgetary requirements.
o Understand the operational issues that arise and integrate with other departments on matters affecting the whole operation, across all the sites.
o Actively seek any commercial opportunities.
o Maintaining a working knowledge of all sites commercial activity including challenges and opportunities that could affect People Campus.
7. General
o Expand People Campus by looking to deploy staff into new sites, developing areas in current sites and investigating other possible areas of growth.
o Attend any relevant training sessions provided by Wincanton to ensure you are fully equipped to perform your role effectively especially relating to safety courses.
o Any other duties as reasonably required to ensure the efficient operation of People Campus.
o Provide accurate, up to date information to enable effective deployment of the People campus team.
4. NATURE AND SCOPE
The jobholder is a key member of the Group Operations management team and will be responsible for the successful day-to-day running of the People Campus team in the Northampton area.
The jobholder needs to ensure the team is highly motivated and working in accordance with legal and company procedures across all the sites.
The jobholder needs to manage large teams with multiple different sites and locations, differing processes, customers, and volumes.
The jobholder needs to ensure that as required practices are carried out in line with the company union agreement promoting good industrial relations.
5. DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY
Counselling of team members, investigating situations and disciplinary action up to written warning stage.
