Position type: Large Animal Veterinarian
Are you an experienced veterinarian with an adventurous side who is starting to get itchy feet? Maybe you have a young family and want to relocate to a rural community with great schools? Do you love hiking? Skiing? Farmers Markets? A huge range of delicious restaurants and towns that just keep on getting better? Southland has it all and more these days!
VetSouth is part of an industry leading animal health provider, with modern clinics based throughout Southland and South Otago, Canterbury, the West Coast and Morrinsville. With walks, shops, restaurants, golf, fishing, and areas of outstanding natural beauty on your doorstep, did I mention the skiing? This can be a role built around your lifestyle.
One of our largest veterinary clinics, Winton VetSouth, is looking to increase our workforce specifically in the large animal space; however, we are open to mixed positions. VetSouth Winton has a great team of vets with a wide range of experience and specialised skills. We are proud to serve our communities, get amongst the locals and enjoy a great work-life balance while still maintaining that crucial family feel.
We provide an extensive range of veterinary services to dairy clients, as well as other production animals, working dogs, and companion animals. Developing a culture of 'team first,' where everyone pulls together when there's work, and relaxes when it's time, is key here. We are a strong team with a real focus on well-being who want the best for patients, employees, and the practice.
Due to growth, we are looking for a 4 years'+ experienced veterinarian, but we will take less experience if it's the right person with the right values. You'll develop as a veterinarian and gain experience by working on your own cases and having key clients. Over time, you can also develop in the management space and learn all about the behind-the-scenes parts of a veterinarian business if that's what interests you.
Salary, perks, and hours: $115k+ per annum, depending on experience. CPD is actively encouraged and 25% can be used for wellbeing (some people have bought ski passes with their portion, others join the gym or do a photography course!). You will be working 42.5 hours per week with a sensible OOH rota in place. A relocation allowance is provided, veterinary fees paid, and staff discounts applied for companion animals. A work vehicle, laptop, and phone are provided, plus up to 6 weeks accommodation on arrival (if relocating).
Choosing a new practice is a big decision. You're a great veterinarian. You care about the patients and the people bringing them in. Most importantly, you want a place to help, learn, and grow.
So, what's next?
Well, we can't get the whole story in a job advert, so send your CV to tracy.hartley@vetnz.nz along with any questions. I'll answer honestly, no hard sell. I can also put you in touch with previous and current employees.
