Job overview
We are seeking a Specialty Doctor to join the current ENT team in the Trust, the posts will be based at Furness General Hospital.
You will work Cross Bay with Furness General Hospital as the main site. You will be contracted for 10 sessions per week with the option to increase along with service needs.
Broad experience in general ENT is desirable. Any sub-specialty interest will be actively supported.
This post will consist of Theatres, Clinics and On-call cover for the provision of the service and additional time for professional progression.
Main duties of the job
The ENT department currently has 5 consultants, 3 Associate specialists, 7 Specialty Doctors and 2 junior doctors (CT1/2 at RLI, FY2 at FGH). We have two H&N Clinical Nurse Specialists, one Advanced Nurse Practitioner in post. There are specialised clinics such as a One stop Head & Neck clinic, Paediatric clinics, Voice and Vertigo clinic. The on call will be 1:4 weekends and 1:8 week days.
We aim to provide patient care close to home. Our H&N network is with Royal Preston Hospital but we also have excellent ties with Manchester Royal Infirmary for Skull Base pathology and Rhinology related conditions. An elaborate audiology service is available for adults and paediatrics. There is an opportunity for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well and we have strong connections with the Lancaster Medical School. We are a paperless department with e-prescribing and e-requesting.
You must have full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice at time of appointment
* Medical Degree from a recognised university
* Professional qualifications in ENT, Teaching, Research or education
Experience
* Have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty
* Equivalent years’ experience in relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
* Experience in management of ENT
* Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
