About the role
1. Work across NIHR and with external partners, to lead, influence and facilitate other NIHR functions/teams and leaders to set goals and prepare integrated plans for delivery of the Commitments theme/priorities
2. Develop, deliver and/or support delivery of team/cross-organisational project/s or activities which support the Strategic Commitments. Ensure that goals and stakeholder needs are met, delivery is timely, and there is effective monitoring, reporting and evaluation
3. Develop and maintain targeted stakeholder relationships and networks across and beyond NIHR to build understanding of, and ensure engagement/alignment with, the Commitments and the work of the team in general
4. Work collaboratively with the Comms and Engagement function and others to develop, and help implement, communications and stakeholder engagement plan/s. Support their monitoring and evaluation
5. Work collaboratively, including with other team senior managers, to put in place effective and proportionate programme management approaches for the implementation of the Commitments
6. Assist the Chair and lead senior manager to ensure that the Public Partnerships Programme Board has effective governance. This includes assisting with the secretariat function, recruitment/induction and/or improving systems and processes
7. Lead/contribute to the development of high quality resources/ learning materials and or impact stories/case studies
8. Provide high quality and timely responses to stakeholder public partnerships enquiries, and effective signposting
9. Lead or facilitate team/project events, workshops and or meetings, and represent NIHR and the team at meetings and events. This will include making presentations on behalf of the team and deputising for the Deputy Director where required

What you will bring to the role
Qualifications
11. Degree in health or social sciences or equivalent skills/experience
12. Experience of managing public or community involvement/engagement, ideally in the health and/or care sector
13. Strong applied public partnerships knowledge in at least one of the 5 Strategic themes
14. Experience of leading or delivering improvement goals in an area of work, involving other teams or organisations
15. Experience of delivering successful stakeholder engagement for a strategy/ project/ programme
16. Experience of working with stakeholders at all levels to generate commitment to, and achieve delivery of, shared goals
17. Strong influencing and negotiation skills, to persuade those outside your management control, and at different levels, to take ownership of work/ improve practice/align work/deliver results
18. Excellent communication skills orally and in writing, including the ability to convey complex material tailored to the needs of different audiences, and to target communications, including for patients and the public
19. Effective planning/organisational skills to deliver multiple and fluctuating priorities with demanding deadlines
20. Understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and able to show how you would apply it in this role
21. Highly IT literate with the ability to competently employ the various functions of Microsoft/Google including PowerPoint/Slides, Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets and Outlook/Gmail
22. Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative, inclusive and supportive working style
NB: This role is a 12 month fixed term contract position, 0.8 FTE.
