Role summary: The Locum GP will provide general medical services managing a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients in a semi-rural practice.

Main purpose of the role: To support the partners, to manage a busy and varied clinical patient caseload. The Locum GP will also have the opportunity to take part in leading on key disease areas (monitoring trends in treatment, staff training, and prescribing) and assist in developing appropriate healthcare services for a diverse patient list (in-house clinical services, patient participation, and health promotion). This is a GMS Practice.
Main duties of the job
Clinical responsibilities:
To undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations and emergencies, telephone consultations and queries, triaging, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, and dealing with queries and patient test results. (Not Exhaustive)
Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems and recording appropriate details to expected standards.
The Practice uses SystmOne, AccuRx, e-Consult Smart inbox based Triaging, and EPS.
Extended Access as agreed by the partnership / PCN.
In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Other responsibilities with the Practice:
Assist in the teaching and training sessions with doctors, Physician Associates, Medical Students, Nurses; (Teaching Practice).
Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, annual QOF Assessment of the Practice.
Contributing to evaluation/audits.
If required, attending training, Practice Meetings, and events organised by the practice or other agencies.
About us
Toddington Medical Centre is located in the heart of Toddington. Toddington is a large historical village and civil parish in the county of Bedfordshire, England. It is situated 5 miles north-north-west of Luton, 4 miles (6km) north of Dunstable, and 6 miles (10km) south-west of Woburn.
As a rural practice, our catchment area extends to South Woburn and North Dunstable, reachable within 10-15 minutes of driving.
Our list size is about 8000 patients with an intended target of 10,000 patients. All of our patients are from Toddington and nearby villages.
The practice is led by three partners and a Practice Manager with a full complement of ARRS staff and belongs to the Titan PCN.
The surgery occupies a purpose-built premises with an adjacent pharmacy serving the village, and parking is available.
The surgery is easily accessible by bus from Bedford, Luton, and Dunstable.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Previous Experience and RCGP Registration of 5 or more years and GMC Registration.
* DBS Clearance.
* Evidence of Full Immunisation required for the post.
* Two Checkable References in the past Two years.
Experience
* Appropriate Experience in General Practice (Minimum Five Years).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Understanding of the pressures faced by GPs and healthcare teams.
* Willingness to contribute to and participate in a peer support group.
* Current registration with the GMC and appropriate representation with a recognised medical defence organisation.
* Current CRB check (undertaken less than 6 months before the date of appointment).
* Strong levels of IT proficiency and familiarity with primary care clinical systems (the Practice uses SystmOne).
* Experience in using the Microsoft suite of programmes.
* Proven ability to handle a busy and varied primary care caseload.
* Proven ability to offer support within a clinical team and share learning points in Practice meetings.
* A good understanding of GMS contracting requirements and the operation of the Quality Outcomes Framework process (QOF).
