The Volunteer Coordinator will be instrumental in drive Blue Cross's strategy by championing volunteering benefits locally, boosting centre visibility, and actively expanding volunteer opportunities, to maximise the number of horses we can help by 2026!
More about the role
As the Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll lead recruitment and support for a diverse volunteer team, enhancing our Rehoming and Fostering services through both on-site and remote roles, significantly impacting our horse care efforts.
Achieving retention and promoter targets, you'll collaborate closely with Assistant Managers to market volunteer opportunities, develop volunteer care skills, and implement best practices. Building strong relationships, you'll engage volunteers and community groups at events to boost awareness of Blue Cross and our mission.
Managing and motivating your team, you'll ensure volunteers grow professionally, feel valued, and contribute effectively to Blue Cross's goals and service excellence.
This is a part-time role working 15 hours over two days per week on a rota which includes weekends and bank holidays.

You will excel in communication and have strong interpersonal skills, actively promoting Blue Cross and the benefits of volunteering to various stakeholders. A self-motivated, creative, and forward-thinking individual, you'll thrive in organising local volunteering events and national initiatives.
Your collaborative approach will ensure volunteers find the right opportunities to succeed. Understanding the unique value of volunteering, you will ensure volunteers are recognized and rewarded for their contributions.
Organised, flexible, and analytical, you will enjoy meeting targets and managing a diverse team. With an approachable manner, you'll provide guidance, handle volunteer situations confidently, and offer practical solutions.
In an emotionally charged environment, your resilience and emotional intelligence will shine, showing empathy and support for volunteers and colleagues alike.
Knowledge, skills, and experience
* Demonstrable experience of supervision or management of volunteers.
* Good experience of running and marketing recruitment campaigns for volunteer roles.
* Experience of working with local communities and promoting volunteer opportunities
* Working with and relationship building with a range of external stakeholders.
* Good experience of actively managing a bank of clients or volunteers
* High standards of verbal and written communication.
* Previous experience in working in a client focused environment where delivering a high level of customer satisfaction is the norm.
* Strong organisational, administration and analytical skills, including use of computerised systems.
* Good interviewing and recruitment skills
* An awareness of health and safety legislation.
* Current full driving licence.
* The ability to demonstrate, understand and apply our Blue Cross values
Although not essential, it would be great if you also had:
* Qualifications in managing volunteers or similar.
* Training or coaching skills.
* Presentation skills.
* Working with animals, and knowledge of animal welfare.
* Organising events.
* Understanding of safeguarding issues.
