Fulltime Ward Clerk role within our team in ENT/Maxillofacial on ward L23 atLeeds General Infirmary
Weare looking for a well organised, enthusiastic, and flexible person toprovide clerical support to our dedicated team of nursing staff within wardL23 at Leeds General Infirmary.
WardL23 is a busy, ENT, Maxillofacial and Spinal surgery ward. It is fast pacedwith a high turnover of admissions and discharges. We are also a specialistunit caring for patients having complex surgery for Head and Neck Cancer
Main duties of the job
OurWard Clerk is often the first-person visitors to the ward will see, so apositive, friendly, welcoming disposition is essential.
Youshould have excellent communication skills, enjoy meeting a wide variety ofpeople and have the ability to handle a variety of tasks including, datainputting, checking, and ordering ward stock, general clerical duties andorganising patient transport. You will be required to use and update PAS andPPM systems, maintain the ward register, take phone calls and messages fromeither member of staff, other departments or relatives, arranging transportfor patients been discharged, transferred or leaving the ward forappointments while they are an inpatient. You will also book follow upappointments for discharged patients. Other administration duties includedocumenting any admission discharge or transfers, ensuring there is adequatestock for the ward, ordering equipment that may be needed, reporting anyfaults that occur on the ward. It will also involve assisting the nurse incharge in a multitude of administrative tasks to ensure the continuous smoothrunning of the Ward.
Thepost-holder will be expected to work various shift patterns, includingunsocial hours, covering weekends and evenings on opposite shifts to anotherWard Clerk

Job responsibilities
- Record admission, transfer, anddischarge activity data onto the Trust PAS system.
- Arrange patients follow-upappointments using the PAS system and order transport for patients whenrequired.
- Record changes to the bed base andinform the relevant corporate team.
- Handle telephone calls fromrelatives, hospital staff, public etc, under guidance where necessary fromthe sister/Charge Nurse, and making calls where appropriate on behalf of wardstaff.
- Ensure that patients medicalrecords (including x-rays) are available on the ward, obtaining these wherenecessary from other departments.
- Transfer pathology and otherreports to patients records, and general collation of records promptly andefficiently, especially on patients discharge.
- Order stationary and completerequisition forms under instruction from Sister/Charge Nurse.
- Complete electronic admission/bedsystem as required.
