Job Description NATS is the UK’s leading air navigation service provider, handling over 2 million flights per year, our people are at the heart of our purpose to advance aviation and keep the skies safe. In partnership with the MOD, NATS Solutions deliver Air Traffic Control services at Military Airfields (Barkston Heath, Middle Wallop, Netheravon, Wattisham and Woodvale). This is a 21-year contract delivered jointly with Aquila, who have responsibility for engineering services. NATS Solutions are currently seeking to recruit an Air Traffic Services Assistant (ATSA) to join their team based at RAF Barkston Heath in Lincolnshire At RAF Barkston Heath, the RAF conduct Elementary Flying Training for RAF and RN trainee pilots. The Airfield also regularly hosts RAF aircraft from RAF Cranwell and RAF Wittering. Individual ATSAs work a rotating pattern of early and late shifts over a 40-hour week overlapping. The Air Traffic Services Assistant is responsible for providing a broad range of support activities as instructed by local management to ensure the efficient delivery of the Air Traffic Control Service and to allow the safe operation of the airfield. Principle Accountabilities Operating to Company procedures and Regulatory requirements, the successful applicant will provide support within the Air Traffic Service Unit and Marshall Contract where the following tasks will be undertaken (Note the list is not exhaustive and employees are required to adjust their working tasks to meet all Regulatory, Customer and Company requirements) Air Traffic Assistant Duties involve: Opening checks which include opening the building, equipment serviceability checks. Manning the Visual control assistant’s position, which includes notifying Controllers of planned aircraft movements, updating airborne and landing times and forming part of the ATC Team response to aircraft emergencies Receiving and acting upon telephone calls and emails to the ATC unit Conduct Routine and Special Met Observations and inputting the METAR to the Met System Receiving and actioning of flight plans. NOTAM’s dissemination and other essential flight data General airfield driving duties, as required by SATCO Reporting aerodrome and equipment faults to the relevant help desks Submitting Air Safety Incident reports Maintaining operational statistics and databases for Company, Customer and Regulatory purposes Assist in document control Other reasonable administration support actives as required Any other reasonable support tasks required by the local unit Qualifications and Skills Applicants should possess: Airfield experience, or a passion for aviation Excellent communication and good organisation skills A strong team player is required with the ability to demonstrate flexibility in meeting various working demands placed upon them. Basic numeracy and literacy Proficient computer skills, including use of Microsoft applications An excellent timekeeping and attendance record A full UK driving licence A minimum Colour Perception requirement of CP2 (Safe) or CP3 (Defective Safe) to be able to hold an airfield driving permit A Meteorological Observer’s qualification would be desirable; however, training will be provided if required The routine hours require an ATSA to be available 0730-1745 Mon-Thu and 0730-1715 Fri.
