Platinum Group Metal Services (PGMS): is one of four businesses within the Efficient Natural Resources sector that manages, distributes, refines and recycles precious metals and fabricates products using precious metals and related materials.
Job purpose: Reporting into the Dispensing and Packing Lead and working as part of a team, the Dispensing and packing Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the dispensing and packing department & processes in a safe and proper manner, to produce outputs that meet all customer and business unit specifications.
Principal accountabilities:
1. To dispense, label and pack work orders using the appropriate systems to meet customer dispatch dates and deadlines, whilst remaining aware of EHS and QA standards and requirements, as well as help keeping accurate stock levels.
2. To receive customer/internal orders and dispense/pack them within an allocated time so that they are dispatched on the date required.
3. Use and develop systems to control and manage customer orders and stock, including liaising with sales and operations to plan and prioritise work, and manage metal movement both in to and out of the department.
4. Ensure conformance to customer requirements, specifications and output schedules with respect to total quality in all aspects of the job.
5. To check and monitor the use of containers, packing consumables and stores, and to keep adequate stocks for the use of the department.
6. To help maintain a high standard of all Environmental, Health and Safety aspects around the workplace, including adhering to all procedures for security, health and safety, environmental quality, training etc, and completing audits required in the department, in line with company policy.
7. To be fully conversant with the processes and associated risks of the production processes, including suggesting and implementing improvements.
8. To check delivery note invoices to make sure the correct materials/items have been received.
9. Promote good interpersonal relationships with other team members, management, and other departments to work effectively to ensure delivery of production targets and customer demand.
10. To be fully trained in Training & Knowledge of IATA / ADR regulations.
11. Support the implementation of LEAN and Continuous Improvement initiatives in the department, following the application of LEAN principles in day to day working to minimise waste to control costs within the budget and assist with projects and all other duties as required.
12. To carry out any other duties which are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.

Scope:
1. Working in Fine Chemicals Dispensing team will mean working closely with the Fine Chem production units, supply chain (Scheduling, Packing and Shipping) and the sales team from Chemicals, CTT, AgT and PT.
2. Dispensing and Packing of time critical jobs which require a quick turnaround.
3. The operator will work flexibly within the department between the booking on and packing of jobs.
Special factor:
TRAVEL: The incumbent will be based at the Royston site, although some travel for training might be expected.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is production based in a clean work area, with frequent visits to other production areas and work in an office environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25kg.
Person specification:
Qualifications/knowledge/experience:
GCSE grade C (Single Award) or equivalent in Chemistry, Maths and English are a minimum requirement unless candidates can argue that their experience has provided equivalent knowledge.
Good level of both written and verbal English would be required to ensure a high quality of recording and following of procedures can be followed.
High level of numeracy, working with systems and data, SPC control, statistical understanding.
Exposure to a LEAN approach to manufacturing.
