It will attract 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) comprising Direct Clinical Care (DCC), 1.5 for Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) and 0.25 for Educational Supervisor responsibilities. An indicative timetable is provided below.
The Direct Clinical Care commitments are timetabled to a regular working pattern (fixed days) but on these days there will be a mixture of set and flexible sessions. These will be dependent on the postholder’s areas of interest with sessions currently available covering trauma, interventional radiology and elective LSCSs.
Consultants within the department are expected to work with Anaesthesia Associates, supervising them in a 2:1 capacity, or 1:1 on high turnover lists.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide consultant delivered anaesthetic services for all specialties (for which they have appropriate training), which will be allocated according to service need. The rota is published on a weekly basis and distributed to all relevant staff.
The post holder, in addition to clinical duties, will be expected to:
1. Participate in continuing professional development and attain the required standards of CPD recommended by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
2. Undertake teaching and training.
3. Participate in the strengthened appraisal and job planning processes.
4. Be involved in and aware of the clinical governance issues of the Trust.
5. Participate in clinical audit.
The post holder will take part in the General Oncall rota (currently 1:16 frequency) with an oncall supplement of 3%.

Registration
* Full GMC registration.
* Eligible for entry in GMC specialist register in Anaesthetics (within 6 months).
Qualifications
* Degree from a recognised University.
* FRCA or recognised equivalent qualification.
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
* Ability to prioritise workloads both clinical and non-clinical when subjected to conflicting pressures.
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
