North Yorkshire Building Control Partnership (NYBCP) was the first Local Authority Building Control Partnership in the UK and is now part of the new unitary authority of North Yorkshire Council. We provide a flexible and modern building control service on behalf of North Yorkshire Council.
Our vision is to ensure that buildings in North Yorkshire are designed and constructed in accordance with the Building Regulations and associated legislation.
It is an exciting time to join North Yorkshire Council. In April 2023, eight former smaller councils unified, offering increasing opportunities within the service. The Building Control Team have a strong reputation and can offer a career where you are truly supported to develop your skills and flourish with the support of colleagues. We currently have opportunities available for Senior Building Control Surveyors. These are hybrid working roles with expectation to attend offices in North Yorkshire when required including North Yorkshire Building Control Partnership head office at Easingwold, Civic Centre (Skipton) and Civic Centre (Harrogate).
* Senior Building Control Surveyors - £41,511 to £45,718 (subject to pay award)
We are seeking Senior Building Control Surveyors who are registered with the Building Safety Regulator and have demonstrated their level of competence through an approved validation scheme or are working towards the validation of their competence. The core focus of the role is to effectively deliver the building control function throughout North Yorkshire and contribute towards the objectives of the council.

Responsibilities
About the role
As a Senior Building Control Surveyor, you’ll play a key role in ensuring buildings in North Yorkshire meet the highest regulatory standards in safety, sustainability, accessibility, and design. You’ll work alongside a professional, supportive team, and your responsibilities will include:
* Processing Building Regulation applications under the Building Act 1984 and ensuring compliance with all regulations.
* Managing dangerous structures and demolition notifications across the Partnership area.
* Assisting with enforcement actions to ensure the council meets its obligations under the Building Act and associated legislation.
* Delivering service excellence and maintaining a strong performance culture in a competitive market.
You’ll also contribute to the ongoing development of the team and help shape the future of building control services throughout North Yorkshire. Whether you're already registered or working towards Class 2 registration with the Building Safety Regulator, we welcome your application and encourage you to get in touch for an informal chat about the role.

* Educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering and/or be able to demonstrate learning at an equivalent level.
* Registered with the Building Safety Regulator to at least, or working towards, Class 2: Building Inspector as determined by the HSE Building Inspector Competency Framework (BICoF).
* Corporate Member of a relevant professional body such as RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors), CABE (Chartered Association of Building Engineers), CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building) or equivalent.
