Job overview
The appointment based at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is a replacement post, created for a suitably experienced anaesthetist to gain experience in the field of paediatric anaesthesia in a tertiary referral centre. The post is aimed at a candidate who wishes to pursue an interest in paediatric anaesthesia. Please note that this post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean, but equivalent training will be provided as for trainees on the deanery based training programme. The post has been recognised by the Royal College of Anaesthetists to fulfil the Advanced year in Paediatric Anaesthesia training requirements.
Main duties of the job
Duties will be based at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospitals as a member of the Anaesthesia Team. You will be exposed to the full range of specialities available at the children’s hospital. The on-call duties are residential shifts. During this time you should try and see a wide range of children undergoing multiple different procedures. Your job as an anaesthetist is to provide peri-operative care to patients in the safest way possible. As a clinical fellow in paediatric anaesthesia, there is flexibility to ensure both your learning needs and the service provision. Educational supervision and support will be provided using face-to-face teaching via a named educational supervisor who will help you determine your learning agreement for your placement. You will also have access to trained mentors and are expected to maintain the new RCoA e-portfolio for revalidation and career progression as well as the Trust appraisal process.
