Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Phlebotomist to join our busy surgery and work alongside our fantastic team of clinicians at Hawthorn Medical Centre. A caring yet firm and calm approach is vital as is excellent communication skills and a passion for improving services for patients. Strong Communication skills are essential, along with strong IT skills. This post holder is required for the collection of venous blood samples for pathological analysis. The post holder will be required to work independently and as part of a team when required. They will be asked to liaise with other health care professionals, clinicians and patients. This is an interesting and important job, previous experience in this field is not essential but desirable, but full training will be provided. Main duties of the job The following are the main core responsibilities of the role of Phlebotomist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks: this will be dependant upon factors such as workload and staffing levels Achieve and maintain proficiency in the phlebotomy process To carry out blood specimens by performing venepuncture using aseptic non-touch technique and follow practice protocols Ensure that all samples are dispatched to the appropriate path lab Check patient identification against request form identification Ensure that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff About us Hawthorn & Merchiston PCN supports two practices. The Merchiston practice was established around 1860 in the village of Stratton-St-Margaret. Until the 1950s, Stratton was a small farming community and it still retains its separate identity, despite now being a suburb of Swindon. The Partnership moved from the original Doctors house into new purpose-built premises in 1992. Merchiston Surgery is the larger Practice with a raw patient list of 13,500 (13,700 weighted list) We are a teaching practice with 2 Education Supervisors, 1 Clinical Supervisor, supporting 3 Trainee GPs. Rated excellent by the Swindon GP QA Panel for our trainee placement. Hawthorn Medical Centre has 13000 patients in Swindon, and was this year rated "Good" by CQC. We are a successful training practice with previous trainees staying with us.
