The Curlew faces a critical threat in Wales, with potential extinction by 2033 without immediate action. The Curlew Calls project is funded by the Nature Networks Programme. It is being delivered by the Heritage Fund, on behalf of the Welsh Government. This project focuses on protecting significant breeding populations by partnering with farmers and local communities to create landscape-scale habitat improvements that benefit both wildlife and people. The ultimate goal is to create a resilient landscape where these culturally significant birds can recover and thrive for generations to come. As Project Manager for The Curlews Call, you'll lead critical conservation efforts to protect and restore Curlew populations within two important Curlew areas in North Wales. This pivotal role combines conservation and ecological understanding with leadership and strategic partnership building, as you work with local communities, farmers, and landowners to implement practical habitat management. You'll manage a dedicated team and project budget while developing meaningful relationships with diverse stakeholders to create lasting change for this culturally significant and ecologically important species. What we need from you Essential: • Sufficient understanding of priority species and habitats; landscape scale conservation; land use and management; planning systems; relevant policy and legislation in Wales to enable recommendation to senior staff of appropriate responses and interventions. • Sufficient knowledge of a range of delivery mechanisms for Curlew conservation work to enable recommendation to senior staff of appropriate responses and interventions. • A full driving licence which allows you to drive RSPB vehicles. • Logical & methodical, analytical and a good eye for detail and ability to understand financial systems. • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentational) - including an ability to speak • confidently and cogently in public to a variety of audiences. • Proven time management and organisational skills, with the ability to rapidly analyse significant quantities of information, prioritise and balance a diverse workload often to tight deadlines. • Demonstrable ability to manage changes within projects. • Demonstrated ability to provide advice and interpretation of policy and procedures associated with project management. • Experience of working to survey, protect and/or manage important sites, species or habitats. • Experience of managing staff or volunteers and setting clear work priorities. • Experience of working to a standard project management approach and managing budgets. Desirable: • Project Management Qualification or appropriate training. • Competency in use of Microsoft and GIS. • Confident advocating a position to landowners and managers, local politicians, members and volunteers who have different views • Proven track record in developing strong working relationships with farmers, landowners and their representatives. • Spoken and/or written Welsh language. • Experience of public engagement work.
