In collaboration with Dementia UK, BSMHFT are looking to recruit a registered nurse (RN, RNMH, RNLD) with a passion for, and experience of, providing relationship-centred dementia care with a strong sense of advocacy and equalities for this client group to join Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Service Admiral Nurse Service.
Admiral Nurses are specialist Dementia Nurses who work with and support people with dementia and their families who have complex needs. Under the supervision of the Band 7 Admiral Nurse, you will provide specialist one-to-one support, guidance, and practical solutions for families, alongside supporting best practice and providing role modelling across Birmingham and Solihull.
Main duties of the job
You will be employed by Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust and based at Little Bromwich Centre covering the Birmingham and Solihull area. You will work under the direct management of the Admiral Nurse Clinical Lead. You will receive ongoing support from Dementia UK to maintain and strengthen your clinical expertise as a specialist nurse within dementia care. You will become part of the wider network of Admiral Nurses and will have the opportunity to access relevant post graduate courses and develop professionally, as informed by the Admiral Nurse Competency Framework.
The successful applicant will be a NMC registered nurse, with relevant post-registration clinical experience of working with people with dementia and supporting their carers/supporters in different settings. Experience in a primary care setting is desirable.

Qualifications
* Evidence of specialist training/education within the field of dementia
* Evidence of continued professional development/training in relevant areas, for example dementia or leadership
* Commitment to continued professional and practice development through Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurse Academy
* Postgraduate qualification in relevant area
Experience
* Post-registration clinical experience supporting people with dementia and their carers/families
* Experience of completing holistic nursing assessments, providing bio-psychosocial interventions, working as an autonomous practitioner, collaborative and multi-agency working
* Experience in service specific setting
* Experience of managing care transitions
* Experience of professional supervision/mentoring of staff
* Experience of facilitating and delivering training
Skills and knowledge
* Ability to demonstrate the 6 Admiral Nurse competencies: person-centred care, therapeutic skills, triadic relationship centred working, sharing knowledge, delivering best practice, critical reflective practice
* Skills to operate as a specialist Nurse: strong communication skills, facilitation/presentation skills, expert clinical practice, ability to act as a decision maker and advocate, ability to use appropriate information technology, including MS office software to enable efficient service delivery
* Knowledge and understanding of relevant policies/national strategy in relation to dementia care, Admiral Nursing and its application, dementia and its impact on families, evidence based practice in dementia care, effective role-modelling
* Understanding of audit/evaluating clinical practice, practice development/quality improvement and service evaluation
