Salary: £28,163 to £30,559 per annum
Grade: G
Contract Type: Permanent
Vacancy Hours: 37 per week
Location: Harrogate and Craven Area
An exciting opportunity has arisen in Harrogate and Craven for a Stop Smoking Advisor to join the well-established, successful stop smoking service within North Yorkshire Council. As a result of recent, significant government funding aimed at accelerating the plan to create a Smokefree generation by 2030, Living Well Smokefree are looking to increase local resources to help people quit smoking. The Living Well Smokefree service works as a countywide team, based in locality areas.
The service provides programmes of advice and support to people who want to stop smoking on an individual or group basis, in accordance with agreed local and national protocols. As a Stop Smoking Advisor, you will be responsible for:
* Reducing the overall smoking prevalence among adults.
* Reducing the inequality gap in smoking prevalence, between priority populations and the general population.
* Reducing smoking prevalence amongst young people.
* Reducing smoking prevalence in pregnancy (measured at time of delivery).
Stop Smoking Advisors work as a countywide team, based in locality areas led by a Team Manager. This role is focused on running stop smoking groups, one-to-one clinics, and telephone support. The post holder will provide smoking cessation behavioural change advice, support, and assessment and treatment programmes to people who want to stop smoking in accordance with agreed local and national protocols. Post holders will facilitate access to a menu of stop smoking interventions for individuals accessing the service and will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and running stop smoking clinics in their locality areas.
They are required to adopt mobile working practices, working in the community with access to a laptop and mobile phone and will be required to input personal client data into the case management system for reviewing and monitoring performance against agreed outcomes. Advisors will be expected to work in a range of settings, including community venues, North Yorkshire Council buildings, and occasionally client’s homes, and will be responsible for organising their own work locations and diary. You must be able to travel independently by own methods of transport around the locality which may include rural areas. It is envisaged that the post holder will work flexibly including weekends, evenings, and bank holidays occasionally.
An ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence through the medium of English.
To be successful, you will be a certified NCSCT (National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training) practitioner or have a willingness to complete this training within 2 months of joining. Previous experience of stop smoking services is not essential but would be desirable. You will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and innovative and have a passion for prevention and partnership working. As well as a fantastic benefits package, we offer an excellent programme of support, supervision, and training and the opportunity to develop your own skills with a range of complex and varied work. You will work across a large geographical area and access to transport and a willingness to travel as part of the job is therefore essential.
