As the company continues to grow, they have decided to look for a commercially astute and hands-on Financial Controller to work closely with the owner to bring greater discipline and clarity to cost control and financial performance. The Job: The Financial Controller will play a critical role in strengthening financial controls, improving job costing accuracy, and enabling the business to better manage profitability. You will be responsible for establishing robust financial processes and working across teams to ensure accountability for managing project costs. Act as a strategic partner to the owner, providing clear financial insight to support business decisions. Establish and maintain effective project costing and reporting systems, ensuring timely visibility on actual vs. expected margins. Introduce and embed financial controls and disciplines across the business to improve cost awareness and accountability. Analyse project performance to understand variances in profitability and recommend corrective actions. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management processes. Prepare monthly management accounts with meaningful commentary on financial performance. Work closely with site managers and operational teams to track costs, highlight risks, and support commercial decisions. Support year-end processes and liaise with external accountants or auditors as needed. Continuously review systems and processes to identify opportunities for improvement. The Person: Recognised accountancy qualification, such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA is ideal. However, someone with strong cost management experience, who is part qualified will also be considered. Previous experience in construction, engineering, or contracting sectors is highly desirable. Strong track record of implementing financial controls and improving financial visibility in a hands-on role. Commercially minded with the ability to work closely with non-finance colleagues and influence decision-making. Proactive, practical, and comfortable getting into the detail when required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach.
