This is an exciting opportunity for someone that is eager to make an impact in the world of business journalism and secure interviews with some of the biggest names in the South West.
Based in the heart of Bristol, as Deputy Editor you’ll be playing a vital role in keeping South West Business Insider running from an editorial perspective. You’ll be supporting the editor across the running of events and production of features for the magazine and website, and will be able to deputise for the Editor as needed once fully trained.
You’ll write for Insider’s market-leading business magazine, interview top-tier business leaders and entrepreneurs across a full range of industries, and provide insightful analysis on key industry trends shaping the South West economy. We’re looking for someone who can break down complex topics into engaging, authoritative content that resonates with senior business decision-makers.
The Deputy Editor will also be a key representative of Insider at a variety of high-profile events, from lively roundtable discussions and networking breakfasts to prestigious black-tie awards dinners. If you love interacting with an influential audience and thrive in a social, high-energy environment, this role is for you.
This is a fast-moving, high-impact position for an ambitious individual eager to develop a successful career in business journalism. Expect variety, challenge, and the opportunity to make a real difference in the regional business landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
* Deputise for the Editor as needed - keeping the magazine and events running smoothly in their absence.
* Writing compelling features and articles for South West Business Insider, both online and within the magazine, demonstrating a strong awareness of business trends and issues.
* Create engaging video for Insider’s social channels and news site, from interviews to site tours.
* Organising, chairing, and presenting at a range of dynamic industry events, from panel debates to gala dinners.
* Building strong relationships within the South West business community, ensuring you’re always at the pulse of breaking news and key developments.
* Contributing innovative ideas and feature topics that drive engagement and commercial success, collaborating closely with the business development team.
What We’re Looking For:
* Proven experience in a journalism role.
* A strong grasp of business concepts, with the ability to communicate them in a compelling, authoritative manner.
* A degree or journalism qualification is preferred but not essential.
* Highly organised, able to juggle multiple deadlines and adapt to fast-changing priorities.
* Full of ideas, creativity, and energy, with a passion for storytelling and business journalism.
* Confident in public speaking and engaging with senior business figures both online and in person.
What We Offer:
* A competitive salary package for the right candidate.
* A structured personal development plan designed to support your career ambitions.
* 25 days of holiday per year, with the opportunity to buy more days.
* A vibrant, city-centre office environment and a friendly, ultra-supportive team.
* The autonomy to write about the business issues that excite you the most.
* The opportunity to be part of a thriving publishing and events company where your contribution will have a real impact.
