Surrey County Council is looking for two people to assist in promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct amongst elected councillors and co-opted members of one of the largest and most innovative councils in England.
The successful candidates will play a key role in the process for handling any complaints about a Surrey County Councillor and in relation to disciplinary matters involving senior employees.
The role is one required by law and the Independent Person must have the experience and profile to be able to bring an independent and informed perspective to a range of sensitive and complex issues. The successful applicants will need to be demonstrably impartial, informed and able to inspire confidence in their judgement.
Excellent communication skills, personal integrity, a commitment to public service and a good knowledge of Surrey are all requirements of the role.
The post holders will receive an annual allowance (currently £1,000 p/a) and the recovery of relevant expenses. The appointment will be for a fixed term of four years.
