Estimator – Highways
Salary: £65000 - 75000
Location: East Midlands/Lincolnshire
Region: East Midlands
We are looking for an experienced Estimator who has previously been working on Highways related projects to join a UK leading contractor operating across the East Midlands and Lincolnshire. There will be an element of flexi work hours and also home working.
The Estimator will be part of the preconstruction team and shall be responsible for pricing and developing bids for National Highways and Local Authority highways maintenance contracts (£20m+ pa). Working closely with the Managing Estimator and the bid team you will assist the business to secure profitable work by producing robust tender estimates. You will lead the development of client tender information into a comprehensive price for tender submission.
As the leading Estimator your duties & responsibilities will be:
1. Responsible for winning work by producing tenders and leading on all financial elements of tender submissions.
2. Prepare accurate prices for materials, labour and equipment based on client drawings and specifications.
3. Creating, analysing, and maintaining correct and accurate quantities and thorough take-offs from designs/data sets.
4. Compile subcontractor and material quotation packages and subsequent adjudications.
5. Price preliminaries and contract overheads/fees.
6. Understand current market prices and benchmark our solutions to increase success rates.
7. Price tenders using the Candy Estimating software package.
8. Prepare tender review and present at tender sign off meetings as required.
9. Assist the bid team in any post tender negotiations.
10. Completion of tender handover documents.
Skills & Knowledge Requirements:
1. Previous relevant estimating experience.
2. Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar.
3. Particular attention to detail with good project management skills.
4. Sound mathematical and numeracy skills, with the ability to solve problems analytically.
5. Ability to achieve tight deadlines under pressure.
6. Ability to communicate at all levels, both verbally and written.
7. Availability for travel.
8. Experience using estimating software and IT skills as appropriate.
9. Understanding of contract conditions (including NEC), specifications and drawings.
