About the role
Senior Site Engineer - North Sea Link - East Sleekburn, Blyth
The Operations team are responsible for ensuring safe and efficient operational running of North Sea Link (NSL) 24/7/365. As our Senior Site Engineer, you will have a critical role ensuring that the NSL assets (Converter Station, Cable Systems, Substation and associated Operational Technology) maintain the highest level of operational performance.
You'll liaise with other support functions within the Interconnector business to assist in driving forward a collaborative approach to running our assets.
North Sea Link (NSL), a joint venture with Norwegian system operator Statnett, stretches 720 kilometres under the North Sea, at depths of up to 700 metres. NSL is an interconnector capable of sharing up to 1400 megawatts of electricity – enough to power around 1.4 million UK homes.
Key accountabilities
* Undertake a range of duties including monitoring, maintenance, fault investigation & repair, witnessing & testing & commission, record updating.
* Supervise NSL Technicians and Third-Party Contractors to ensure optimum efficiency, cost effectiveness, with high standards of environmental and safety performance.
* Undertake standby and emergency call out duties.
* Support and mentor development requirements for Technicians to gain Competent Persons (CP) and Authorised Persons (AP).
* Adhere to the site safety rules and ensure all on-site are held to the same rules.
* Manage the delivery of specific projects to maintain and improve the performance of our assets and systems.
* Overseeing planned and unplanned works safely and efficiently, supporting prompt return to service.
About you
* Experience working within high voltage environment or similar environment.
* Knowledge and understanding of work and/or failures on HV & LV systems, encompassing both electrical and mechanical systems.
* Foundation knowledge of key Health, Safety and Environmental and Occupier legislation applicable within an operational environment and premises.
* Proven experience managing and overseeing contractor and in-house team performance including safety, health, environment & quality when carrying out work.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of gaining a high degree of credibility and influencing with teams, particularly leading a team.
* Experience in managing on-call activities and making decisions in ambiguous environments.
