Commentary from the Creative Services Team
We made a number of strategic optimisations from the previous advert to better align with candidate search behaviour, enhance clarity, and ultimately boost engagement and application rates.
One of the most significant changes was the job title adjustment from ‘Customer Engagement Officer’ to ‘Door-to-door Canvasser’. We are aware that in today’s job market, job titles need to be as transparent and accessible as possible to resonate with job seekers. While "Customer Engagement Officer" is a professional-sounding title, it may have been too broad or ambiguous, making it difficult for candidates to understand the nature of the role at a glance. In contrast, "Door-to-door Canvasser" is clear, searchable, and immediately communicates the core aspect of the job. This not only improves visibility in search results but also ensures we are attracting candidates with the relevant mindset and experience.
In addition to the title change, we refined the tone and structure of the ad to make it more engaging and outcome-focused. We introduced more persuasive language, placed greater emphasis on the role’s purpose and impact, and used motivational phrasing to appeal to candidates' values—particularly around sustainability and community impact.
The revised benefits section was also presented in a more enticing format, with clearer language to help candidates quickly identify what’s on offer. The overall copy has been tightened for readability, and more direct, energetic language has been used to create a sense of urgency and appeal.
