Full job description
Job Purpose
To support an efficient and effective small animal diagnostic imaging referral service by providing clinical activity under supervision of ECVDI Diplomates and residency-trained clinicians, as well as participating in the out of hours service and being on call on some evenings and weekends. To contribute to the School objectives relevant to national and international excellence in clinical service, teaching and research.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical:
1. To support the small animal diagnostic imaging referral service by providing, under supervision, a high-quality service and appropriate advice to external referring practices and owners.
2. To support the development of novel approaches and techniques to aid diagnosis and treatment.
3. To participate in the out-of-hours service, ensuring adequate cover is available for the care of in-patients.
4. To ensure compliance with the continuing professional development requirements of the appropriate specialty and the RCVS.
5. To participate in promotional activities and events relating to the Small Animal Hospital.
6. To contribute to the ongoing development of the academic discipline of the Division.
Teaching:
1. To deliver undergraduate and post-graduate teaching activities in veterinary medicine.
2. To collaborate in appropriate clinical scholarship projects/trials.
3. To attend and actively participate in national/international events/research seminars/conferences.
Administration:
1. To contribute to the administrative work of the Hospital/Division as assigned by the Clinical Director/Head of Division.
2. To contribute to the performance and development review processes as appropriate.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
1. A veterinary degree registerable with RCVS.
2. Knowledge of national veterinary regulations and practices.
3. Prior training and experience in small animal diagnostic imaging.
4. Masters, PhD [or other evidence of research training].
Skills
1. High standard of communication skills, both oral and written.
2. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
3. Self-motivated, able to plan for contingencies and think strategically.
4. High standard of presentation skills.
5. Ability to provide advice to clinicians and external veterinary surgeons.
6. Ability to provide veterinary care to small animal patients receiving specialist care in the small animal hospital.
7. Understanding and experience of statistics, databases and other IT applications/packages.
Experience
1. Post-graduate clinical experience in small animal veterinary medicine.
2. Previous experience within a clinical setting.
3. Teaching experience relevant to the Higher Education sector.
4. A track-record of clinical publications.
5. Clinical experience in small animal diagnostic imaging.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,232 - £36,924 per annum. This post is full time and fixed term for up to 1 year.
