Instructional Design Specialist – John Crane (Slough) – PART TIME – 22.5 Hours (3 Days) Per Week
As an Instructional Designer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and evaluation of comprehensive training and enablement programs, working closely with key business stakeholders and external providers. This role will involve engaging with senior leadership at John Crane to ensure alignment with organizational goals. You will apply proven adult learning and instructional design principles to create structured learning curriculums and programs, including job aids and other enablement materials across multiple formats. This includes designing blended learning experiences, such as instructor-led training (ILT), virtual instructor-led training (VILT), and on-demand course materials for both classroom and webinar settings.
In addition, you will create sales enablement tools such as job aids, podcasts, videos, and interactive PDFs, while also developing skills-based assessments. Your contributions will include enhancing competencies in coaching, feedback, presentation skills, business writing, whiteboarding techniques, and sales methodology.
The Key Responsibilities for the role are as follows -
* Curriculum Development: Design and implement comprehensive training programs tailored to various roles within the manufacturing sector, including production, quality control, safety, and equipment operation.
* Instructional Design: Leverage instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE) to create engaging and effective learning experiences for employees across a range of skill levels, from entry-level to advanced technical roles.
* Content Creation: Develop a diverse array of instructional materials, including eLearning modules, instructor-led training (ILT), blended learning solutions, hands-on training guides, job aids, and assessments.
* Learning Technology: Utilize learning management systems (LMS) to deliver, track, and assess training effectiveness. Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools, such as Adobe Captivate, Storyline, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Cloud, Vyond, and Microsoft PowerPoint, is highly advantageous.
* Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), product managers, and key stakeholders to identify training needs, gather information, and ensure the accuracy and relevance of training content.
* Continuous Improvement: Evaluate training program effectiveness through assessments, participant feedback, and performance metrics, using data-driven insights to continually enhance and update training materials.
* Compliance Training: Design and deliver training programs that ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards and internal company policies.
* Workforce Development: Develop upskilling and cross-training initiatives aimed at improving employee versatility and overall workforce productivity.
* Project Management: Oversee and manage multiple training development projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills/experience -
Education
* Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Training & Development, or a related field.
Experience
* 3-5 years of instructional design experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
* Experience with adult learning theories and instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, etc.).
* Experience in designing sales and technical training is highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
* Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (Adobe Captivate, Storyline, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Cloud, Vyond, Microsoft PowerPoint)
* Familiarity with LMS platforms and reporting tools.
* Strong understanding of video production, animation, and simulation for training purposes is an advantage.
Soft Skills:
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong project management and organizational abilities.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including SMEs and Product Managers
