The Litigation team provides advice to the Council on a range of legal matters and represents the Council in courts and tribunals. The role of the Graduate Paralegal is to generally assist and support the role of Solicitors within the team. It is also to perform substantive legal work and ultimately manage your own caseload, with the appropriate training and supervision. This will be an opportunity for individuals to Gain experience. Develop their knowledge in legal services. Develop their confidence in a working office environment. The tasks to be undertaken by a Graduate Paralegal in assisting and maximising the work of the Solicitors are numerous and are likely to include: - Prepare, Draft, Lodge and Serve Court documents, particularly adults with incapacity and permanence cases Be responsible for a case load and undertake legal work under the supervision of a solicitor, Maintain court diaries and reminder systems, liaising with the court and Council Services regarding the progression of cases, prepare witness statements and affidavits, and assemble papers and productions for civil court attendance by solicitors, Sifting and triaging incoming communications, responding where appropriate or forwarding them to the appropriate legal section for further action, and Undertaking tasks such as legal research and case law summaries. The Person To be successful in the role, you will have: • Minimum of 4 National 5s (or equivalent) which must include English and Maths • Higher English or equivalent) • HNC in Legal Services (or equivalent) • Ability to work as part of a Team • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels • Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines • Ability to work under pressure • Ability to receive constructive feedback and reflect upon and improve working practice • Ability to develop understanding of the law and principles underlying work being carried out. • An interest and enthusiasm in working within a legal environment • Flexible and adaptable approach to work • Ability to use initiative • Ability to provide a regular and effective service Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
