About the role:
In this role you will be responsible for delivering the race meetings required with integrity. You will grade cards for race meetings and perform racing office/race meeting duties as required. Compliance with conditions imposed on the business by Government, Gambling Commission and The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) need to be met or exceeded. This role will include a variable working week pattern to meet the needs of the business, including weekends.
Responsibilities for the successful Racing Manager include (but not limited to):
1. Liaise closely with the Head of Racing (Greyhounds) regarding the delivery of racing from Sunderland Stadia and the racing office function.
2. Oversee that competitive racing is provided with high integrity and that welfare is a priority.
3. Manage and support the racing office team and actively encourage their personal development.
4. To comply with any legislative and licensing requirements including GBGB and Gambling Commission.
5. Understand and keep up to date with the GBGB Rules of Racing, ensure compliance with them and have regular contact with their respective GBGB Stipendiary Steward.
6. Grade cards and run race and trial meetings as required.
7. Complete registrations to satisfaction of GBGB including ‘marking Up’ and sampling.
8. Manage racing strength, trainers and kennel hands as required.
9. Have a full working knowledge of racing office software systems and GBGB kennel software systems.
10. Attend and respond appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise.
11. Work closely with the General Manager, grounds team, kennels team and GBGB officials as required.
12. Abide by all regulations and safe working practices in accordance as detailed in the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and Procedures.
13. Act as a representative for the stadia and ARC at all times, leading by example to all other team members.
The person we are looking for as a Racing Manager has…
1. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role. Job role would suit Deputy Racing Manager or Assistant Racing Manager looking to further their career.
2. Greyhound racing office background required.
3. High level of interpersonal skills.
4. Strong communication skills – able to communicate at all levels.
5. Strong organizational skills.
6. Ability to work to strict pressured deadlines.
