Applications are invited for the post of Firearms Licensing Assistant within HQ Specialist Operations Division based at Hutton Headquarters. This post is temporary until June 2025 subject to review.
The purpose of this role is to act as the first point of contact for the force in relation to firearms and explosives enquiries and to maintain all database and administrative systems within the Firearms Registry. A few key responsibilities required of the post holder are:
1. To interpret and apply legislation relevant to the issue of Firearms & Shotgun Certificates and explosives regulations.
2. To provide advice to operational police officers and members of the public on firearms and explosives related matters.
3. To receive, evaluate and disseminate information and intelligence from various sources.
4. To liaise with divisions, other forces, outside agencies and members of the public in respect of the work of the Registry.
5. To summarise case files and produce case notes detailing relevant areas of concern for decision by the Firearms Licensing Manager.
6. To maintain, research, input, update and weed information on force and departmental databases following ethical and honest practices at all times.
7. To develop knowledge and expertise of NFLMS (National Firearms Licensing Management System) Firearms information database.
8. To maintain all administrative and filing systems for the Firearms Licensing Unit.
9. To maintain and produce statistics as required.
10. Production of accurate correspondence including memoranda, reports, case notes, certificates etc.
11. To ensure maintenance of quality standards and customer requirements.
12. To carry out any other duties which are consistent with the nature, responsibilities and grading of the post.
There are no specific qualifications required for this role however it will require staff to be able to access and retrieve information from various police ICT systems, collate accurate reports and present them to the Firearms Licensing Administration Team Leader and Firearms Enquiry Officers for them to conduct physical licensing enquiries. Updating of police systems within the Firearms Registry will also be required.
