We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Senior Catering Assistant to complement our existing team. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate, creative and talented caterer to develop their skills and engage in a wide range of events and functions regularly held at the facility.
Salary: £12.84 (equivalent to £26,700 per annum)
Hours: This is a permanent, full-time post averaging 40 hours per week which will normally be worked across a 2 week shift system comprising mainly of working straight shifts, evenings and weekend working.
Holidays: 33 days annual leave inclusive of bank holidays.
Summary: The College’s Catering Department is responsible for providing a comprehensive catering service to fellows, alumni, students and staff and to conference and bed and breakfast guests. Service includes formal dining arrangements and cafeteria provision, as well as high end functions, feasts, weddings and occasional outside catering. This is a supervisory position which covers a variety of tasks including supporting the Hall Manager and Assistant Hall Managers in providing an efficient and professional catering service to the College.
Key Responsibilities
• Preparation of rooms for catering services served in the Cafeteria, Hall, Master’s Lodge, Hall and various other meeting rooms.
• Daily supervision of the Cafeteria.
• Supervision of meetings and events taking place in all of the various Dining Halls, Meeting Rooms and external locations in College.
• Overseeing the provision of drink services provided at events held in College - excludes the College Bar.
• In liaison with the Catering Administrator assist with ordering food and non-food items overseeing correct rotation and helping to maintain stock levels and reduce wastage.
• In liaison with the Catering Administrator assist with receiving deliveries, checking them against orders and keeping accurate records.
• Oversee the correct operation of the tills and correct recording of meals consumed.
• Assist with ensuring high levels of food safety, utilising the College risk assessment procedures, HACCP and adhering to the COSHH guidelines.
• Assist with stock takes and cellar maintenance.
• Assist with ensuring the cleanliness of all rooms used for catering service, maintaining cleaning schedules and reporting any maintenance issues.
• Being aware of the security of the College silverware.
• Maintaining the stocks of cutlery, crockery and table linen.
• Overseeing the casual catering assistants and assisting with their induction and training.
• Maintain cleanliness of ancillary office and staff areas of the department.
• Assisting in the maintenance of discipline in Hall.
• Supporting and where necessary, deputising for the Assistant Hall Managers in their absence.
