We are delighted to offer this opportunity to join the Cardiology Department at Wirral University Teaching Hospitals (NHS) Foundation Trust as a Consultant Cardiologist.
Main duties of the job
This is a new and exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic and progressive Cardiology Department as a Consultant in Cardiology at Wirral University Teaching Hospital (NHS) Foundation Trust (WUTH).
The post-holder would join a team of seven Consultant Cardiologists each with varying specialty interests. In addition, there is a complement of one Associate Specialist, one Senior Staff Grade, one Clinical Fellow, and three Specialist Registrars (2 x ST3 and 1 50:50 NIHR Clinical Lecturer post).
There has been an on-site invasive cardiology and permanent pacemaker implantation service for over 20 years. There is a well-developed non-invasive service including cardiac CT and 3-D complex echocardiography including stress echocardiography and 3-D TOE. Education is well-supported and research is strongly encouraged. There are regular MDT meetings with cardiac surgeons/interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists from Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
Job responsibilities
The successful candidate would support the delivery of the (1 in 8) consultant of the week / on-call rota and would be encouraged to progress / develop their own sub-specialty interest.
Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
* MRCP or equivalent
* Licence to practice
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via:
o CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months)
o CESR
o European Community Rights
* Higher research degree or in the process of obtaining a higher research degree
* Signed off for sub-specialty interest in Imaging, Echo, TOE, CT, MRI
Experience
* Wide experience in elective and emergency Cardiology in the UK up to the standard expected of CCT
* Evidence of practice at consultant or sub-consultant, senior StR level for a reasonable period of time. Previous Fellowships or extended training
Clinical Skills
* Able to provide safe cover 24/7 for all Cardiovascular Care and Emergencies (TPW/Pericardiocentesis etc)
* Expertise in Imaging/Echo/TOE/MRI/CT
Ability to integrate within, motivate and provide professional lead in multi-disciplinary team
* Organisational skills. Teaching experience.
* Evidence of possession of management skills.
Understanding of the Role of Clinical Audit
* Relevant experience in organisation and undertaking audit.
Research and Evidence Based Practice
* Research and publications relevant to post
* First author Journal publications. Presentations at National and International Meetings
Personal Qualities
* Ability to lead and teach, relate to patients, relatives and other hospital staff and to work as part of a team
* A team player, able to flex to meet the needs of an expanding, improving department
Other Requirements
* Full registration with GMC
* Ability to travel
