The Role: Senior Infrastructure Engineer
As a Forward Deployed Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will design, build, manage and support critical on-premises IT infrastructure for our customer. You'll be expected to work as part of a specialist IT engineering team, managing a system relied upon by hundreds of deployed users. This is a unique opportunity to deliver real impact in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
You will need a broad technical skillset spanning VMware virtualisation, Linux OS, Windows Server OS and Cisco networks. Strong skills in troubleshooting, problem management, and clear, effective communication are essential. You must also be able to collaborate effectively with key stakeholders, including project and security teams, tailoring your communication to the appropriate technical and business level.
Your initial deployment is anticipated to be on-site in the West Midlands for approximately two years, working within a hybrid team of contractors and military personnel for a government organisation. While this role offers hybrid working options, it requires a minimum of 4 days per week on-site. Candidates must be willing to obtain a UKNSV security clearance with SC being essential, and DV clearance desirable. You do not have to have worked on customer sites or in a consultancy role previously.
Key areas of responsibility
* You will be responsible for maintaining the IT infrastructure. This involves performing configuration changes and software upgrades as required.
* You will troubleshoot and rectify faults that occur on the system in a timely manner, using a logical approach to fault finding.
* You will be responsible for developing and deploying new infrastructure such as new network devices, virtual machines and containers into the production environment. You will be required to update system diagrams and documentation where an eye for detail and a diligent approach is required.
* You will monitor the performance of the system. You will be expected to react to this monitoring to keep the system operational and prevent system outages.
* You will be expected to configure end-user devices that connect into this on-premise infrastructure, ensuring the established build process is complied with.
