Job Description
Teaching Assistant - BSL Support | Telford
Aspire People, a trusted education recruitment agency, are working in partnership with a specialist school to recruit a passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Complex and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and British Sign Language (BSL) needs.
Contract Details:
* Full-Time - Monday to Friday - Term Time Only
* Role due to start in September, but the school is open to candidates who are available to start sooner
About the Role:
This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with a range of complex needs, many of whom use British Sign Language (BSL) as their primary method of communication. As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with severe learning difficulties and BSL needs
* Use BSL to communicate effectively with pupils and support their learning and social development
* Help implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and adapt activities to suit each child's needs
* Assist with personal care, sensory support, and classroom transitions where required
* Work closely with teachers, speech & language therapists, and other support staff to ensure pupils receive holistic and consistent care
* Create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes engagement and progress
Who We're Looking For:
We're seeking a calm, patient, and resilient individual with a genuine passion for supporting pupils with complex needs. The ideal candidate will:
* Have experience supporting children who use BSL to communicate (a minimum of Level 2 BSL is highly desirable)
* Be confident working with pupils with SLD, PMLD, ASD, and associated needs
* Demonstrate adaptability, with the ability to respond calmly to challenging behaviours or changes in routine
* Be nurturing and empathetic, understanding the importance of building trust and routine for vulnerable pupils
* Work well as part of a collaborative team, while also showing initiative and independence
* Be open to training and development opportunities to support continued growth in a SEN setting
This is an incredibly fulfilling role where no two days are the same - but the impact you'll make is consistent and life-changing.
If you're ready to make a difference and have the experience and passion to support BSL learners in a specialist setting, we'd love to hear from you.
