Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Part Time Receptionist to join our friendly team.
The hours will be approximately 20 hours per week, between the hours of 8am - throughout Monday to Friday. The hours to be worked can be flexible to a degree, but you must be able to work from on certain days and until until certain days as we need to have staff on duty between our core hours of You may be required to provide additional hours (over your contracted 20 hours per week) to cover for annual leave.
The successful candidate will be given 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays. We are also members of the NHS pension scheme.
Main duties of the job
1. Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointment system
2. Process personal, telephone and e-requests for appointments
3. The management of repeat prescriptions, ensuring they are processed accurately and efficiently
4. Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately
5. Signpost patients to the correct service
6. Initiating contact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members and external agencies
7. Photocopy documentation as required
8. Input data into the patients healthcare records as necessary
9. Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner
10. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
11. Monitor and maintain the reception area and notice boards
12. Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested

Burnside Surgery is a friendly, long established, well respected GP Practice in Bolton. It serves a population of just over 4700 patients.
There are 2 GP senior partners and a salaried GP. We also have a wide range of healthcare professionals and administrative staff.

Job responsibilities
13. Greets patients in a friendly and courteous manner at all times. To answer telephone calls in a polite and professional manner. To make appointments for the doctors surgeries and nurses clinics using the Practice clinical information system To ensure that surgeries and clinics run on time, making sure that the doctors and other clinicians are aware of their schedules. Answering patients non clinical queries To open the post, and distribute accordingly. To arrange new patient registrations, explaining the surgery policies. To listen to patient complaints, making sure that they are addressed and dealt with appropriately. To retrieve patients medical records for various clinics and surgeries. To file patients records in the correct manner. To check and update patients addresses, telephone numbers etc, on both manual and computerised records. To create new patients medical records. Issuing repeat prescriptions. To cover duties for other members of staff, this may arise in the case of absence, sickness and holidays. Make drinks and wash up, ensure tea/coffee supplies adequate, purchase new stocks. Chaperone GP if required. To ensure that the surgery in which you are working is left secure after use at all times during your work hours and ensuring Practice premises and perimeters are left secure at the end of the day. Shared responsibility for reception, waiting rooms and consultation rooms upkeep and tidiness including leaflets and posters To ensure that strict confidentiality protocols are adhered to. Attending and contributing to practice meetings. To attend training sessions on behalf of the practice as required. To comply with health & safety procedures and report any areas of concern to the Practice Manager. To undertake any other duties as may be determined from time to time to ensure the efficient running of the practice.
Effort & Environment
Use of PC on a daily basis requiring a high level of concentration for speed and accuracy. Receives highly sensitive and confidential information from patients and Practice staff. Requires long periods of time sitting but also filing which requires lots of bending and getting up and down.
