Job summary
We are looking for a committed, dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our Respiratory team at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, part of UHB Birmingham. The role requires extensive experience at Band 7 level in order to provide clinical expertise at an expert specialist level in Respiratory diagnostics.
This opportunity has arisen to support in the delivery and development of a high-quality diagnostic respiratory physiology service, providing expert professional and clinical leadership while working as part of an innovative, dynamic, and patient-focused team.
The department of respiratory medicine has several specialty clinics - lung function service, also including routine Sleep and Complex Ventilation NIV, Polysomnography, ILD, Oxygen, CPET, Occupational Lung service which are led with an MDT approach. Additionally, the service provides diagnostic investigations to a range of other highly specialist services such as Vascular and Cardiac services.
We are looking forward to working with an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Respiratory Physiologist with a high level of demonstrable technical ability, clinical understanding, and leadership skills to join our Lung Function team.
Main duties of the job
1. Responsible for the day-to-day organisation of the departmental diagnostic and therapeutic service in conjunction with Senior Chief Respiratory Physiologist / Operational Manager.
2. Deputises for the Senior Chief Respiratory Physiologist in their absence.
3. Supporting departmental training implementing competence-based training programmes for physiological measurement staff and coordinating various training programmes and adherence to National School curricula.
4. Participate in the standard setting for all routine test procedures and equipment, including participation in the development of standard operating procedures.
5. Contribute to the maintenance of safe working practices within the lung function & Sleep department complying with all Health and Safety legislation, other relevant legislation, and Trust policies.
6. Responsible for the specialist training and education of respiratory physiologists, nurses, and other health care professionals in respiratory measurements.
7. Undertaking appraisal of physiology staff within Lung Function & Sleep.
8. Undertaking aspects of staff recruitment, selection, appointment and employment in conjunction, where appropriate, with the Senior Chief Physiologist and/or Consultant Clinical Scientist.
9. Line manager responsibility of Senior Physiologists including attendance management, performance issues/disciplinary procedures.
10. The successful candidate will carry out and interpret a broad range of respiratory and sleep investigations.

* Specialist training/experience in advanced respiratory procedures e.g. sleep and nasal ventilation equivalent to MSc level (E)
* ARTP Part I and Part II Assessments/Practitioner examinations or equivalent experience (E)
* Current professional membership regulated by RCCP or HCPC (E)
* Evidence of CPD (E)
