Practice Development Midwife - Pre-registration Team
The post holder is responsible for supporting the Pre-Registration Team in the delivery and support of midwifery student placements.
Supporting pre-registration students in the clinical environment.
Act as a supportive, professional role model and resource for staff & learners in practice, the classroom and external organisations.
Liaise effectively and proactively with external organisations to maximise placements support and opportunities.
The post holder will be able to problem solve using a collaborative approach.
Design, teach and deliver sessions, to pre-registration students and Trust employees.
Main duties of the job
1. Ensure systems are in place to protect the service users, staff and students in clinical areas.
2. Provide advice and guidance for Service / Team / Unit Managers to enable them to provide suitable learning environments and appropriately prepared mentors.
3. Assist with the monitoring, maintenance and development of the quality in all aspects of midwifery clinical placement provision.
4. Work with colleagues, students and service users to identify the changing needs of the local population.
5. Actively participate in Midwifery education meetings and development activities.
6. Promote positive communications that enhance the quality of clinical learning.
7. Effectively manage one's own time to ensure a balance between clinical and administrative duties.
8. Support the promotion and maintenance of a departmental culture which promotes an open and honest approach to professional decision making and problem solving.
9. Demonstrate and promote excellent interpersonal skills.
10. Be able to work as an integrated member of the multidisciplinary team.
Professional Responsibilities:
1. Being professionally credible and competent and participate in annual appraisal.
2. Observe personal duty of care in relation to equipment and resources used in the course of work.
3. Work without direct supervision within Trust policies, procedures, professional and national guidelines.
4. Act as an expert resource for all staff in the Trust in relation to clinical placement issues in Maternity.
5. Promote collaborative working partnerships and effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Quality Assurance and Monitoring:
1. Assist with the monitoring, maintenance and development of the quality in all aspects of midwifery clinical placement provision.
2. Support compliance with internal and external healthcare standards.
3. Provide advice to promote clinical audit and quality improvement.
Policy and Service Development Responsibilities
1. Contribute to the strategic planning of midwifery clinical placement provision.
2. Support best practice is consistent and evidence based by the development and implementation of procedural documents.
General Responsibilities:
1. Contribute to the mentor register/database held within the Trust.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
* Evidence of learner support and assessing in practice within the last six months.
* Current midwifery experience.
* Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management.
Skills
* Frequently using IT Skills - Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
* Effective interpersonal skills and an ability to challenge appropriately.
Educations, Training and Qualifications
* Degree level professional qualification or can demonstrate academic studies at level 6.
* Registered Midwife.
* Mentor, practice teacher or educator qualification.
