Job Title: Chief Mate – Wellboat Operations

Contract Type: Permanent (1 month on/1 month off rotation)

Migdale Transport Ltd is seeking an experienced and dedicated Chief Mate to join our team on our new wellboat. The Chief Mate will play a pivotal role in supporting vessel operations, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and maintaining the health and welfare of live fish transported throughout the UK, Ireland, Faroe Islands, and France.
Key Responsibilities:
* Implement the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) procedures within your department.
* Train new crew personnel on safety and environmental operational matters.
* Conduct training for officers and crew in the use of lifesaving and fire-fighting appliances.
* Ensure compliance with safety, hygiene, and environmental protection regulations by all onboard.
* Maintain bridge watch at sea and manage crew watch arrangements.
* Supervise cargo systems and related documentation to ensure safe operations.
* Perform safety checks in workspaces and issue Work and Entry permits.
* Collaborate with the Chief Engineer to maintain all deck and fish-handling equipment, ensuring proper records and updates in the planned maintenance system (Premaster).
* Ensure all lifesaving and fire-fighting equipment (LSA & FFA) is operational and maintained.
* Create detailed reports as requested by the Master.
* Manage the upkeep of electronic charts, publications, and voyage passage plans.
* Handle port administration requirements and oversee the upkeep of critical logs.
* Undertake security duties as directed by the Ship Security Officer (SSO).
Requirements:
* Certificate of Competence as Chief Mate (minimum).
* Valid STCW certificates.
* Valid ENG 1 Medical Certificate.
* Strong leadership and communication skills.
* Experience in aquaculture operations or live fish transportation is an advantage.
