Our tier 1 contractor in the water sector is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join their new Northumbrian Water framework based in the Essex and Suffolk region on a permanent basis.
You will report directly to the Regional Discipline Lead - Civil or the Senior Design Manager. This role will necessitate traveling to other client regions initially to embed/onboard (likely Thames or Anglian).
The programme of work, across a variety of water and wastewater schemes, is expected to be in the region of £280M.
Responsibilities
1. Produce design layouts which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification, and can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
2. Ensure that standard practices are utilised wherever possible.
3. Maintain competitiveness.
4. Provide estimates and feedback for the Proposals department.
5. Work to procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the department.
6. Assist in developing procedures and processes.
7. Monitor and review the procedures and processes.
8. Write, update, and monitor efficient procedures to aid the smooth running of the department.
9. Ensure co-ordination of designs with all other disciplines internal and external to the client to ensure that the design processes carried out on the contract are co-ordinated for the benefit of the contract as a whole.
10. Maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
11. Assure customer satisfaction.

Skills/Experience/Qualifications
1. Demonstrable experience and knowledge of engineering principles including structures, materials, geotechnics, hydraulics, and environmental engineering.
2. Working knowledge of roles and responsibilities under CDM 2015.
3. Working knowledge of industry standards (BS, CESWI, WIMES etc.) and relevant legislation (Water Industry Act 1991, The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016).
4. Strong understanding of the principles of water and sewage treatment.
5. Experience managing members of staff in designing relevant discipline aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
6. Membership of a professional institution / chartered.
7. Relevant discipline Engineering degree - civils.
8. Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts.
9. Good general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, e.g., mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering, and project management.
10. A flexible mind, with the ability to assimilate large amounts of different data at one time.
11. Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently, and convincingly.
12. Computer literacy.
13. Driving license/commutable distance from the Essex and Suffolk region.
