This position is based in our London Stratford Office. This is a permanent opportunity with the potential of hiring two successful candidates into the team.
Brief Description
The focus of this role is the traction power contact systems, optimising their performance. You must have prior knowledge of the design/operation and maintenance of 25kV overhead line contact systems and ideally an appreciation of d.c. conductor rail systems. This role is ideally suited to a highly experienced mechanical or electrical engineer. The role has full accountability for a volume of contact system assets within the Route.
About the role (External)
Key Accountabilities
1. Provide contact systems engineering input to the determination of appropriate engineering maintenance regimes and activity volumes for contact systems assets in accordance with company policies, standards and specifications.
2. Provide a comprehensive systems engineering support service across the contact systems asset base throughout the route and across delivery units as and when required.
3. Monitor and strive to improve the technical competence of engineers associated with contact systems engineering in the delivery units.
4. Provide technical briefings associated with contact systems engineering to engineers in delivery units.
5. Review and make recommendations on derogation and non-compliance applications to contact systems engineering related standards.
6. Review and monitor progression of potential improvements to contact systems from delivery units; provide feedback to the originators.
7. Carry out asset condition inspections that will inform the contact systems asset condition database and the renewals work bank.
8. Provide advice and guidance to the delivery unit and other asset engineers in the production of prioritised business focussed contact systems renewal proposals.
9. Participate in, and lead as directed, contact systems engineering activities in support assurance processes including the maintenance audit programmes and engineering verification.
10. Monitor the reliability and performance of contact systems related assets across the route and instigate, lead and participate in the implementation of corrective actions to improve as required.
11. Contribute to the development and maintenance of route asset management plans.
12. Participate in investigations of incidents as required.
13. Contribute to the development of revised standards and policies relating to contact systems assets.
14. Assist in the review and acceptance process for engineering project designs as and when required.
Essential
1. Incorporated Engineer
2. Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent
3. Membership of relevant professional institution
4. Substantial [Discipline] engineering experience
5. A detailed understanding of the maintenance of [Discipline] assets
6. A sound knowledge of the relevant technical, safety and performance standards
7. Holds relevant professional licences and technical qualifications, or capable of achieving within reasonable timescales
8. Holds valid UK driving licence, or eligible and willing to obtain
Desirable
1. Chartered engineer
2. Understanding and experience of railway infrastructure maintenance
3. Experience of undertaking engineering assurance activities, including competence assessment
