Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled HGV Technician to run our onsite workshop. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical and electrical background, with the ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy goods vehicles. This role requires proficiency in using hand tools and the capability to work with various systems within HGVs. The successful applicant will be dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of safety and performance in all vehicle operations.
Responsibilities
1. Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostics of heavy goods vehicles to identify faults and issues.
2. Responsible for the ongoing repair and maintenance of our fleet of vehicles and trailers, ensuring they are all safe and roadworthy.
3. Perform repairs and maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems, including engines, transmissions, and braking systems. Regular servicing and running repairs on the fleet (including M.O.T preparation).
4. Carry out heavy lifting tasks safely while adhering to health and safety regulations. Ensure a safe and clean working environment, complying with health and safety regulations and working with our HSE advisor.
5. Promptly repair all defective vehicles to the highest standard ensuring that all vehicles are maintained in accordance with the Company Operating Licence guidelines.
6. Maintain accurate records of work performed, including parts used and time taken for each job.
7. Collaborate with the Transport Manager and Operations Director to ensure timely completion of repairs/inspections/brake tests while maintaining quality standards.
8. Stay updated on industry best practices and advancements in technology related to HGV maintenance.
9. Have the ability to work on their own initiative.
Requirements
1. Proven experience as an HGV Technician or similar role within the automotive industry.
2. Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot various vehicle systems.
3. Experience in welding, assembling, and fabricating components as needed.
4. Ability to dig into complex issues using logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
5. Physical capability to perform heavy lifting tasks safely when required.
6. A valid class 1 driving licence.
