Weare looking for a Senior OT to join the Outside the Box (OTB) Team, part of the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway.
The OPD pathway is based in prisons and probation, with NHS and HMPPSstaff working together to increase the wellbeing and reduce the risk of thosescreened into the pathway, whilst also upskilling the knowledge and attitudes of wider staffworking to allow a more psychologically informed and relational approach to rehabilitation.
OTB is an intervention and consultation service forthose screened into the pathway who are stuck in the system (e.g. not able toengage,multiplereleases and recalls) or displaying behaviours that mean they arent able toaccess other services that would benefit them. The service provides individualand group interventions with a focus on the relational. This includesdeveloping a shared formulation and goals with each person on caseload, as wellas pro-social groups (e.g. gardening, bee-keeping), psycho-educational groups(e.g. healthy self-esteem), skills groups (DBT skills) and more therapeuticgroups (e.g. MBT).
The role isdynamic and works within a cohesive, motivated and enthusiastic team including Prison Officers, Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists and an Arts Therapist.There's lots of space given to supervision, reflective practice & opportunitiesfor training, in acknowledgement of how challenging this work can be.
Main duties of the job
The role is still developing but will includeleading on the OT element of the service, developing andimplementing occupational groups and meaningful activity, supervising andworking with a Band 5 OT, consulting with other members of the team regarding OT needs of those on caseload (e.g. thinking about sensory profiles), holding acaseload & working in a psychologically-informed way to develop formulations/goals.
You will beworking in an enthusiastic team made up of Prison Officers, Governors and Clinical Staff alike. It is important that the team work cohesively and effectively together. The service dedicates time to teamdevelopment and you will participate in this through reflective practice, teamactivities, & mindfulness sessions.
You will often work autonomously, so weare looking for someone confident and capable.You will need excellent communication, reflection and critical appraisal skills as workingwithin a prison settingcan be challenging, therefore it is important that you utilise supervisionand reflective practice to support your own wellbeing.
This role comes with a uniqueopportunity for OT staff to link in with the OPD pathways national network ofOT professionals which offers support and a chance to be creative with sharingof ideas.
There is scope for training within theservice to support your development in the role.
There arecurrently a number of animal-assisted therapeutic activities in the service including three therapy dogs and a tortoise.

* Established mental health experience at Band 5
* Understanding of current issues within secure mental health services, clinical governance issues, practice education and implications for OT
