Technical Process Support Specialist - Malt Distilling
Location - Moray House, Elgin
2 Year Fixed Term Contract

About the Role
We are excited to offer a 2-year fixed term contract as a Technical Specialist to support the dynamic growth of Malt Scotch Whisky. You will play a pivotal role in our Malt Distilling Technical Team and support all operational sites within our Malt Distilling footprint. You’ll continually provide technical insights to improve and enhance the performance of Malt Distilling, with considerations of cost, environmental targets. The role will involve working closely with operational teams to lead and support a range of projects to improve operational performance across our 30 distilling sites and 4 maltings.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To work as part of the Malt Distilling Technical Team based in the central support functions of Malt Distilling, regarded as the technical authority such as (quality, efficiency, malt & barley) to support all operational areas.
2. Develop and support transformational initiatives in partnership with operations to sustain and improve efficiency & quality performance into the future.
3. Benchmark internally and externally to identify new technical insights to unlock quality and efficiency performance pushing the boundaries to breakthrough performance.
4. Work closely with operational teams to lead and support a range of projects to improve operational quality and efficiency performance across 29 sites and 4 maltings.
5. Build working relationships with a technical network across our Scotch category.
6. Understand the business strategy and priorities to deliver cross functional solutions.
7. Build and sustain working collaborations with functional partners within Scotch (Process engineering, project engineering, risk & governance, procurement, science & technology) to deliver comprehensive solutions to challenges.
8. Work closely with operations to maintain high standards in quality management to ensure all governance & compliance requirements are met (ISO, HACCP, TACCP) maintaining all departmental processes to ensure that outcomes align with an integrated quality assurance system.
9. In conjunction with Malt Distilling Technical Manager and Technical Business Partners, develop technical strategy to support the long-term vision of technical within malt distilling and ensure Capex requirements are mapped to sustain and improve performance and capability for the future.
10. Support continuous improvement and problem-solving activities by providing / utilising technical knowledge and experience presented in a logical and codified way utilising data & analytical techniques and tools.
11. Role model and champion the use of data and analytics tools and systemic root cause problem solving tools within Malt Distilling.
Skills and Experience Required:
12. Degree or equivalent experience level qualification in science-related field or qualified through validated experience.
13. Experience in working in partnership with an operational environment.
14. IBD Diploma or equivalent experience in Distilling or equivalent
15. Experienced in leading and delivering projects within a functional team.
16. Experienced in statistical analysis tools, turning data into insights & actions.
17. Lean / Six Sigma qualification and or experience would be advantageous.
The role will cover a standard working week and will be based from Moray House, Elgin, and will be required to travel to our operational sites as the need arises.
