Job Overview
The Deputy Manager will fulfil a wide range of specific duties delegated by the Home Manager in their absence, modelling excellent practice and helping to develop their colleagues' skills and confidence. They will also assume the role of leader, when requested, in their absence, taking full accountability for the smooth running and provision of high-quality services.
To be part of a team offering a comprehensive, high quality residential service to children and young people. The aim being to ensure the physical, social and emotional well-being of the children/young people are met and to assist in their positive holistic development and resilience.
Minimum Requirements:
- Familiarity with residential care principles is beneficial
- Level 3 or 4 in Residential Child Care (Children and Young Peoples Workforce)
- Level 5 leadership and Management (Completed or assigned to)
- EBD Experience
- Ability to work shifts and sleep in the home overnight
- Must have valid Right to Work in the UK
- Hold a full UK driving licence (desirable)
- Empathetic people person who is non-judgemental and calm
- Dedicated and committed with a “can-do” attitude
Duties:
- To actively safeguard and promote the welfare of the young people within your care.
- To respond immediately to any unsafe practices and conditions.
- Take the lead in ensuring an open culture is created, one in which children feel they can complain and that they are listened to.
- Promote and actively encourage the delivery of a safe, structured and nurturing environment.
- Ensure that the educational attendance and achievement of children and young people is effectively supported and celebrated.
- Ensure that children and young people have access to a wide range of activities and leisure opportunities.
- Take a lead role in consultation with children/young people, families and professionals.
- Support the manager in ensuring the delivery of a safe and Ofsted compliant home that is underpinned by a structured and nurturing environment.
- Ensure that staff are aware of the individual needs of all young people and deliver the support required to ensure life chance opportunities and positive holistic development.
- Ensure that staff fully understand the role of a key worker and make sure systems are in place for the delivery of this practice.
- Ensure that all staff are aware of their roles and responsibilities in relation to the Children's Homes Regulations, and Quality Standards.
- Ensure that all staff are made aware of the variety of intervention strategies to work with children and young people in our care.
- Ensure that staff understand, are fully aware of, and implement the daily routines of the home.
- Promote and actively encourage the professional development of staff.
- Responsibility for the management and supervision of Senior RSWs.
- Ensure that Senior RSWs have the skills, knowledge and ability to manage residential support workers effectively.
- Ensure that all staff work within a non-discriminatory environment.
- Undertake supervision of identified members of staff, work within the Company policies and procedures in relation to supervision, appraisals, and performance related pay reviews.
- Work in collaboration with Human Resources to manage all employee relations within the home, in line with current employment legislation and the company's policies and procedures.
- Oversee, supervise, appraise and develop the skills of staff in their working practice.
- Work in partnership and develop professional working relationships with colleagues, other agencies and professionals to meet the needs of young people and their families.
- Providing leadership and direction to all employees.
- Taking advice and guidance from Management or Senior Leadership in relation to any necessary disciplinary action to be taken.
- Motivating employees and ensuring a focus on the objectives in line with the home's statement of purpose and children/young people care plans.
- Must be self-motivated and possess the desire for self-development.

Pay: £15.00 per hour
