The role
We are looking for someone to lead the operational day-to-day elements involved with running a small and effective finance team.
You will be accountable for the following:
1. Maintenance of accurate and timely accounting records.
2. Oversee day-to-day accounting activities including Payroll.
3. Oversee and process all month-end accounting tasks, following the month-end timetable using SAGE Line 50.
4. Month-end reconciliations of key control accounts including all bank reconciliations.
5. Take ownership of the financial procedures, ensuring the team is trained in the appropriate levels to their role.
6. Support the Finance Director to deliver the financial data and timely completion of month-end reporting.
7. Oversight and control of the organisational job costing system, Synergist, including training all team members and KPI reporting.
8. Using this data to work alongside the operational leads for the agency and HLS teams to ensure good use of both resources and people’s time.
9. Undertake team reviews and 121’s.
Salary is between £35,000 - £40,000 per annum.

Key elements of the day-to-day role:
* Running the day-to-day operations of the finance team, adhering to time-specific tasks.
* Supplier payment runs, ad hoc bank payments, customer remittances and bank reconciliations.
* Approval of company credit card transactions.
* Debt collection and monthly statement runs.
* Client invoicing and client deposit analysis.
* Data export from job costing system.
* Approval and coding of supplier invoices.
* Raising of purchase orders.
* Monthly payroll and pension payments.
* Preparation and submission of VAT returns.
* Companies House filing.
* Maintenance of fixed asset register.
* Month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments.
* Monthly costs reviews, including analysis of supplier accounts.
* Review and control of contracted costs for renewal and best value.
* New client approval process including credit checks.
* Weekly and monthly utilisation reports and other regular KPI reports as required.
* To develop the client-facing teams in respect of the use of finance systems, including Synergist, SAGE and develop their understanding of the KPI reports.
* Assist with the running and auditing of ISO9001.
* Team time logging and analytics for productivity.
* Support the team leaders and project leaders with financial intelligence and costing approaches.
This will be a hybrid role where you will come into the office 2/3 days per week to enable you to lead and work with the team effectively and you will be able to work from home.
What you will bring:
* Experience of managing a small highly performing finance team.
* AAT qualified or qualified by experience.
* Sage accounting software experience.
* Processing payroll for a team of 80+.
* Experience in job costing systems.
* 4 - 5 years experience in a finance team.
* Competent user of IT, Microsoft products, specifically Excel.
* Attention to detail and an analytical mind.
* The importance of Data protection.
* Strong and influential leader with experience of leading highly performing teams.
* Use of Synergist job costing system.
* Knowledge of Stakeholder pensions.
* Experience within a service industry/SME.
* Capable on Budget setting and monitoring.
* Understanding of ISO9001 auditing.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate at all levels.
* Ability to inspire and lead as part of a small team.
* Organisation and prioritisation of own and team workflow.
* Ability to train and help others.
* Own car and ability to travel to other offices.
