Are you an experienced midwife with a passion for patient safety, governance, and continuous improvement? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Maternity & Neonatal Governance Team at Somerset Foundation Trust, where you'll play a vital role in shaping safe, high-quality care for women, birthing people, and their babies.
The Role
As part of a dedicated team of senior midwives, you'll lead on governance processes across the maternity and neonatal service. Your work will be pivotal in ensuring that incidents are thoroughly reviewed, lessons are learned, and meaningful improvements are embedded across the service.
This is a shared role as part of a team; leadership and support roles within the team for particular elements of maternity governance will be agreed with the Heads of Midwifery.
Main duties of the job
* Lead and participate in reviewing incidents, adhering to statutory reporting processes
* Liaise with families, ensuring their voices are heard and that Duty of Candour principles are upheld
* Support patient safety initiatives, ensuring learning from incidents, complaints, inquests, and external reviews leads to real change
* Drive clinical effectiveness, overseeing best practice standards, audits, and compliance with national guidelines
* Ensure risk management processes are robust, including risk assessments and maintaining the risk register
* Embed learning across all areas, ensuring staff receive timely feedback and improvement actions are implemented
You will play a key role in implementing the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), working to ensure safe, effective maternity care in line with national patient safety alerts and external recommendations.
Why Join Us?
This is more than a governance role--it's an opportunity to influence and improve maternity and neonatal care on a meaningful level. You'll be part of a supportive, collaborative team, working closely with the Heads of Midwifery to ensure all governance elements are met while also contributing to a culture of learning, reflection, and improvement.
If you're looking for a leadership role where your expertise can drive real change, we'd love to hear from you.
