The Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) is searching for an Ecologist to support and enhance our project delivery team. What will you be doing as our new Ecologist? You will be responsible for drafting a SPA Ecology Management Plan for AMP 8 Consenting phase which will incorporate an Ecology Evidence Plan (EEP), reporting directly to the Enabling Manager. As interim support you will ensure compliance with statutory and voluntary commitments with respect to biodiversity. You will also draft a BNG Implementation plan for SPA’s statutory Biodiversity Net Gain commitments, providing reports and recommendations to the AW Senior Ecologist, Biodiversity Manager and the Biodiversity Net Gain Delivery Group. Working within the SPA Team and collaborating with others across AW, you will support the business to meet its needs whilst contributing to its purpose, to bring environmental and social prosperity to the region through our commitment to love every drop. Key responsibilities: Develop the ecology and biodiversity approach for the SPA Program for AMP8 Consenting by incorporating an Ecology Evidence Plan (EEP) into the SPA Ecology Management Plan while ensuring alignment with BNG implementation plan. Develop the existing project strategies, ensuring best practice and consistency in approaches to survey, assessment and mitigation strategies across the project. Align inputs and outputs with all other discipline leads and teams, project designers and construction teams to achieve end-to-end integrated delivery. Develop engagement strategy with Natural England, Local Wildlife Trusts and other key stakeholders Understand the implementation of legislation for BNG on Major Projects through to adoption, tracking changes being made during this process, and keeping the Project informed of the implications of these. Work with the wider Environment and legal teams, identifying the requirements which legislation and policy mandate for the Project, and recommend approaches which address these requirements and potentially benefit the project through its consenting regime. Work with the ecology and design team disciplines to develop processes for accurate biodiversity metric calculations, including through the use of innovation. A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours: This job might be for you if you have: A Graduate degree in a relevant topic or demonstrable working experience Experience in planning the delivery of a large and complex EcIA, ensuring consistency with client requirements and liaising with client representatives. Chartered or full accredited membership (or working towards) of an appropriate professional institute or body (eg. CIEEM). Experience in working within the legal framework for environmental assessment and the application of best practice in UK/ Europe. A solid understanding of England’s BNG policy and legal framework including the Defra Statutory Biodiversity Metric. Experience of working with regulators and key stakeholders Excellent report writing skills. A track record of delivering projects to time, cost quality standards across all stages of project lifecycle.
