NWTS Senior Locally Employed Doctor (SLED) post is a full-time post with NWTS and is ideal for senior trainees (ideally post-CCT) in anaesthetics, paediatrics, emergency medicine, pre-hospital medicine and paediatric or adult intensive care medicine, who want to gain further experience in the management of the acutely sick child and transport medicine.
The SLED is an integral part of the multidisciplinary paediatric critical care regional transport team, and the main role of the clinical fellow is to manage all aspects of a transfer, including giving advice at the initial referral call, co-ordinating the logistics of transport, stabilising the patient and ensuring a safe, efficient and cohesive transfer from referring centre to the accepting intensive care unit. It is expected that the clinical fellow will take an interest in an audit, guideline or quality assurance projects. In addition, the clinical fellow is part of the NWTS education team and is expected to be involved with the design and delivery of a wide variety of education and training projects run by NWTS.
Due to the short-term nature of the role, the successful candidate must hold a current registration with the GMC at the time of application, whether it be an active licence, ceased licence or a pending application -MFT cannot support GMC Sponsorship for vacancies less than 12 months fixed term.
Main duties of the job
Role will involve working on a rotational shift system. Shift pattern includes long days (7:30 to 20:00), nights (20:00 to 08:00), twilight shift 11:30 - 00:00 and educational days.
The senior clinical fellow will be expected to:
* Complete referral and transport documentation to an appropriate legible standard.
* Give advice as necessary, according to NWTS/APLS guidelines.
* Liaise with NWTS and tertiary centre paediatric intensive care staff.
* Arrange and undertake transport.
* Maintain the NWTS database.
* Daily check of NWTS transport equipment.
* Maintain an up-to-date personal National Paediatric Critical Care Transport Passport.
* Discuss issues of importance arising from transport e.g. incidents and excellence.
* Attend and actively participate in monthly regional PICM training.
* Complete an audit or quality assurance project.
* Be involved in delivery of NWTS education, simulation and training.
* Involved in co-ordination of trainees rotating from tertiary PICUs and their rota.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
Essential
* Medical Degree
* ST6 or above in their parent specialty
* MRCPCH/MRCP/FRCA or equivalent
* GMC registration and a License to Practice at the point of application
* Experience in paediatric or adult intensive care
* APLS
* Experience in transportation of critically ill patients
Desirable
* CCT in relevant specialty
* Experience in anaesthesia including higher level paediatrics
* Experience in managing patients with congenital cardiac disease
Skills and Abilities
Essential
* Basic training in intubation
* Basic training in venous access (including central)
* Basic training in arterial line insertion
Audit and Education
Essential
* Previous experience on organisation and delivery of educational activity
