Band 8a Clinical Pharmacist - Surgery (Maternity Cover)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and experienced pharmacist to join our friendly pharmacy team as Clinical Pharmacist, Surgery based at Queen’s Hospital in Romford, providing maternity cover for up to 12 months.
You will work with the Lead Pharmacist, Surgery and Gastroenterology to provide clinical pharmacy services to the Surgery care group. You will focus on providing inpatient-based care to surgical patients, working closely within the relevant multi-disciplinary teams. You will also provide care to outpatient and day case patients and support the relevant teams, with the opportunity to gain experience or take part in the running of outpatient clinics. You will be actively involved with developing pharmaceutical care and the pharmacy service to our hospital, providing patient-focused care on the surgery wards, and acting as a direct link to the various surgical specialities.
You will deputise for the Lead Pharmacist, Surgery and Gastroenterology and develop your skills in managing operational aspects of delivering pharmacy services in an acute site. You will participate in the training of the multidisciplinary healthcare teams and will be regularly involved in clinical and service delivery audits and improvement projects.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing and developing comprehensive, patient-oriented pharmacy services at ward and outpatient level throughout Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. He/she will work closely with the Lead Pharmacist for Surgery and Gastroenterology and other senior colleagues and clinical technicians to ensure the provision of an integrated and efficient service.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Our ideal candidate is a passionate, innovative and driven professional with good team working and organisational skills. You must have hospital pharmacy experience, preferably some of this working in a UK hospital, a high level of clinical reasoning and well-developed problem-solving skills and be committed to achieving and maintaining high standards.
You must have completed the Postgraduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice or equivalent clinical pharmacy programme. You must have experience in surgery but with a broad knowledge base of different specialities to be able to support patients. Pharmacist independent prescriber qualification (or a willingness to work towards qualification) is desirable. You must be able to work with senior medical and nursing staff and other health care professionals, influence prescribing and promote practice development. You should also have an interest, and some experience, in training and be able to organise and manage a busy workload.

Experience/ Knowledge
* Comprehensive experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner – this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice.
* Change management experience and direct involvement of redesign within a service, including promoting evidence-based practice.
* Substantial post-registration experience of UK hospital pharmacy practice.
Skills/ Abilities
* Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement and able to deal with difficult and/or ambiguous problems.
