Job Title: Long-term Locum Consultant in Anesthetics
Reports to: Head of Department/Clinical Director

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Responsibilities:
Anesthetic Care:
* Provide expert anesthesia services for a variety of surgical and medical procedures, including general surgery, trauma, orthopedics, obstetrics, and emergency cases.
* Administer anesthesia (general, regional, or local) and monitor patients throughout surgeries and other invasive procedures.
* Ensure patient safety during perioperative care, including preoperative assessment, intraoperative management, and postoperative recovery.
* Pain Management:
* Assist in the management of acute and chronic pain conditions.
* Provide postoperative pain relief services, including administering epidurals, spinal blocks, and other pain relief techniques.
* Critical Care and Emergency Response:
* Support critical care units, including intensive care (ICU) and high-dependency units (HDU), when needed.
* Respond to emergency situations such as cardiac arrests, trauma, and other critical incidents requiring anesthesia expertise.
* Preoperative Assessment and Planning:
* Conduct thorough preoperative assessments of patients, identifying potential risks and planning anesthetic care accordingly.
* Communicate with patients and families regarding anesthesia options, risks, and expected outcomes.
* Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
* Work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in a multidisciplinary team.
* Provide consultation services to other departments as required, including A&E, radiology, and the pain clinic.
Leadership and Teaching:
* Leadership and Supervision:
* Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior anesthetists, trainees, and other members of the anesthesia team.
* Participate in the scheduling and allocation of anesthesia resources to optimize service delivery.
* Teaching and Mentorship:
* Offer teaching and mentorship to medical students, junior doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
* Contribute to formal and informal education programs, including lectures, training sessions, and hands-on demonstrations.
Quality Improvement and Governance:
* Clinical Governance:
* Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Ensure compliance with hospital policies, national guidelines, and standards for patient safety, infection control, and medical ethics.
* Research and Development:
* Contribute to or lead research initiatives related to anesthesia and perioperative care.
* Stay updated with advancements in anesthesia techniques, medications, and technologies.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
* Medical Degree: MBBS or equivalent qualification recognized by the General Medical Council (GMC).
* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice in the UK.
* CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) or equivalent in Anesthetics.
* Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) or equivalent.
* Extensive experience as a consultant anesthetist, preferably across a variety of surgical specialties.
* Experience in critical care, pain management, and perioperative medicine is advantageous.

Hours of Work:

Pay: £91.42-£127.16 per hour
