On-call commitments will be 1:6 (With 2 Registrars/Senior Clinical Fellows on-call each day), and on that day, the post holder will be expected, when proficient, to lead the NORS team and attend donor hospitals as directed by NHS-BT. As a member of the abdominal retrieval team, the post holder is expected to become proficient in retrieval of liver, pancreas and kidney organs from brain-dead and circulatory dead organ donors. Our unit also deliver normothermic region perfusion (NRP) retrievals and have a very active machine perfusion programme. On-call duties will also be to assist in any organ implant surgery taking place on that day, as well as giving cover to any surgical issues arising on the transplant ward. Initially, the post holder will be supervised by more Senior Trainees or Consultants, but it is anticipated that they will be competent to perform the retrieval operation unsupervised after six months and to gain experience in organ implant surgery for all organ groups.
