Research and Development Manager
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research & Development (R&D) Manager to join our client in Great Yarmouth. The successful candidate will report to the Group Products & Technology (P&T) Director and be responsible for driving product-orientated initiatives, focusing on both the enhancement of existing products and the development of new, innovative solutions. The Research & Development Manager will be responsible for the initiation, planning, execution, and successful completion of new product development projects - in accordance with the NPD stage gate process.
The applicant will need to demonstrate results-oriented leadership in a fast-paced environment and must have a strong emphasis on product improvement and new product design.
Main Responsibilities
1. Oversee the development process of new in-house products ("NPD") from ideation to launch within the stage gate process.
2. Innovate and conceptualize new product designs to maintain competitiveness in the market.
3. Lead efforts in enhancing the performance and features of existing products.
4. Manage a team of R&D Electronic Development and Software Engineers, including setting and monitoring objectives, annual reviews, and ensuring day-to-day people management tasks are completed.
5. Ensure the team is fully motivated, committed, and a high-performing, reliable team.
6. Responsible for department recruitment, training, and other line management responsibilities.
7. Responsible for the handover of all deliverables to successfully launch new products, including design verification, bills of materials, manufacture build & test procedures, and staff training.
8. Project management of new product developments including labour resource, time, and material budgets.
Requirements of Role
1. Qualified to Degree level or equivalent in Engineering BEng/MEng (Electrical & Electronics Engineering preferred), or Physics/Maths BSc/MSc.
2. Practical experience with electronic assemblies, firmware & software is essential.
3. Experience of complex project management.
4. Track record with staff supervision, management & mentoring.
5. 5+ years experience in a relevant engineering development role.
6. Experience within the marine/survey industry preferred.
